MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan field hockey program named juniors Erin Dye and Anastasia Netto and senior Paulina Lee recipients of awards last Sunday at its postseason banquet.
Netto (Trinidad & Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent) was named the team's Mary Bottaro Field Hockey Player of the Year after being named second-team All-Mid-American Conference and playing all but seven minutes in the cage for the Chippewas. She finished the season with a 9-11 record and a goals-against average of 1.83, nearly one whole goal better from a season ago. Netto recorded two shutouts in her second season as a starter and ranked second in the MAC in GAA, save percentage and shutouts.
Dye (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) was named the Jane McNamara Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete Award winner for sporting a near perfect 3.95 grade point average. The St. Louis, Mo., native finished second on the team with 10 goals and 27 points in 2011, earning second-team All-MAC honors as well as being named to the MAC All-Tournament team.
Lee (Pittsford, N.Y./Mendon HS), a co-captain, was named the Megan Umberger Leadership Award winner. She became the first player in program history to earn the prestigious Bill Boyden Award earlier this year and led the Chippewas with 10 assists en route to second-team All-MAC honors.
The Chippewas finished the season 9-11 overall, tying for a second-place finish in the Mid-American Conference, and advanced to the MAC Tournament semifinals.
