Field Hockey Announces 2011 Recruiting Class
MOUNT PLEASANT — Head Coach Cristy Freese has announced the addition of South African Junior World Cup Team member Cayleigh Immelmann to the Central Michigan University field hockey program.
"We are very excited to have Cayleigh join our program at Central Michigan University," Freese said. "She will be a good play maker for us and will help our offense improve."
A native of Eastern Cape, South Africa, Immelman was named to the South African 2013 U-21 Junior World Cup Team earlier this summer. She has also played for the Eastern Province senior team (2009-10), Eastern Province U-21 team (2009, 2011), Eastern Province U-16A team (2009) and was the captain of the Eastern Province U-18A team in 2011.
Immelman played for the Old Grey Premier A team from 2009-11 under her father, Robert Immelman. Immelman played on the first team all four years at Woodridge College and was named the team captain in 2010.
"A number of local South African Universities approached me," Immelman said. "However, the set up, exposure and opportunity by CMU was too exciting not to consider and ultimately was the choice that matched my expectations and objectives."
Immelman joins fellow freshmen Jordyn Brengosz, Tiffany Cioppi, Alicia Hutchison, Elizabeth Momeyer, Mary Alice Moore and Maureen Riley on the 2011 squad.
The Chippewas will open the 2011 season with a pair of home games, as they will take on Saint Louis on September 2 and Robert Morris on September 4.
