Dulude Leads Chippewas Over George Mason 3-1

HUNTINGTON, W.V. - The Central Michigan volleyball team had a season high 24 kills from Lindsey Dulude as it defeated George Mason 3-1 Friday night.
With the Chippewas (5-4) up 19-14 they got back-to-back points from Kaitlyn McIntyre, Kelly Maxwell, and Danielle Gotham to push the lead to 22-14. The Patriots (4-7) scored the next point on a CMU hitting error. McIntyre answered by striking a kill to put the lead at 23-15. George Mason added a kill of its own, but then committed a service error to place the Chippewas at game point, 24-16. Hallie Enderle ended the match with a service ace of her own giving the Maroon and Gold a 25-16 win.
CMU trailed set one early but were able to tie things up at 9-9 following a kill by Dulude. An attack error committed by the Patriots, an ace from Samantha Brawley, and a kill by Katie Schuette had the Chippewas on a run that forced a George Mason timeout. They continued to roll scoring four unanswered points with kills from Maxwell and Enderle to push their lead to 18-11. George Mason roared right back cutting the lead to 19-16. The Chippewas would hold on with kills from McIntyre and Dulude to end the set in a 25-22 victory.
The Maroon and Gold tore out of the gates in set two jumping out a 4-1 lead. CMU rolled along to their biggest lead of the day, 17-10, behind four kills from Dulude before the Patriots would respond. George Mason scored seven straight points to make the Chippewa lead only 18-17. Dulude took things into her own hands hammering home three kills giving CMU the 25-21 win.
The third set saw both teams trading points back and fourth until the Patriots were able to pull out a 10-7 lead. George Mason would build their lead to as much as 18-13 before forcing a CMU timeout. Gotham, McIntyre and Schuette all had kills as they cut the lead to 20-19. Their efforts would not be enough, as the Patriots would steal a 25-22 set three win.
The fourth and final set had both teams battling back and forth until CMU was able to break out to a 13-12 lead. Three different Chippewas would score in a 6-0 run to place CMU up 19-13.
On top of leading the team in kills, Dulude led the team with two aces, a .395 hitting percentage and had 17 digs. McIntyre added 11 kills and 14 digs. Maxwell fed the offense with 47 assists.
As a team the Chippewas outhit their opponent .277 to .202. They also had 61 kills compared to the Patriots' 40.
The Maroon and Gold will compete in a double-header tomorrow, facing Eastern Carolina at 10:30 a.m. followed by Marshall at 7 p.m.
