• Freshman Austin McBroom tied a career high with 16 points. He also had 16 against Minnesota and Toledo. It marked the second game this season that he has led the Chippewas in scoring.
• Derek Jackson did not start the game, snapping a string of 29 consecutive starts – the longest active streak on the team.
• CMU held first-team All-MAC pick Jarrod Jones to just four points on 2-of-5 shooting. Jones entered the game ranked second in the MAC in scoring with 17.8 points per game. It was the senior’s lowest scoring output since his sophomore year, spanning back 64 games.
• Ball State’s Tyrae Robinson (20 points) and Tyler Koch (17 points) both notched career highs.
• CMU’s Trey Zeigler was held to single digits for just the second time this season. He finished with six points.
• The Chippewas’ four assists were a season low.
• The Cardinals entered the game ranked 24th nationally in scoring defense, allowing just 58.1 points per game, and 11th nationally in field goal percentage defense at .376. BSU held the Chippewas to 12 points below their season average (64.6 ppg) and Central shot just .339 from the floor compared to the season clip of .415.
• CMU has now lost four straight in the series against the Cardinals.
• Andre Coimbra recorded one blocked shot to raise his career total to 58. He needs 16 more to move into CMU’s career top 10 list.
• Wednesday’s game was CMU’s lone home game in a five-game stretch. The Chippewas played at Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois prior to tonight and are on the road for their next two at Western Michigan and Bowling Green.
• The 21-point setback was the largest margin of defeat in a home MAC game during Ernie Zeigler’s tenure.
