New Faces on Roster Provide Early Competition

"We have built our team for this tempo," said Davis. "We want to get out there and run the court each possession and sprint like this is the possession that will win the game. And we will play the guys who show us that the most.
"We are seeing a lot of competition and a lot of parity and that has given us a very productive first week of practice," Davis said. "There are 11 or 12 guys battling for starting spots."
Despite seven first-year scholarship players on the roster, there is experience at the most important spot. With guards Chris Fowler, who spent a year at IMG Academy after graduating from Country Day High School, and Kyle Randall, who brings in Division I experience from UNC Greensboro, where he graduated in three years, there is solid experience at the point.
"We are still looking to see who steps up at a lot of positions, but these two will need to lead us on the court.
"After recently looking at tape from some of our August practices, it is apparent we have made great strides from then to now," Davis remarked after today's scrimmage. "We have to continue to do that throughout the preseason but the guys' effort has been great and as a coach that's what you want to see."
The Chippewas host Lake Superior State November 7 in the first exhibition game of the season.
