2/26/2012 12:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball
• CMU held its opponent under 40 percent shooting from the floor for the first time in the last 22 games. The Chippewas started the year holding six straight opponents below 40 percent shooting but since then 21 straight opponents made better than 40 percent. During Ernie Zeigler's tenure as CMU's coach, the Chippewas are now 31-11 when holding the opponent to a mark below 40 percent.
• NIU entered the game as the top rebounding team in conference action but the Chippewas outboarded the Huskies, 40-34. Both teams tallied 13 offensive rebounds.
• Today was the fourth time this season that Derek Jackson has led CMU in scoring. He tied a career high by draining four 3-pointers.
• NIU head coach Mark Montgomery was a CMU assistant coach during the Chippewas' 2001 MAC championship season while NIU assistant coach Jon Borovich was a senior on the team. In addition to Montgomery and Borovich, seven other members of that team were in attendance for today's game, including Gerrit Brigitha, Luke Johnson, Mike Manciel, Whitney Robinson, Todd Schrotenboer, Tom Pantlind and J.R. Wallace.
• Trey Zeigler now has 955 points as he closes in on the 1,000-career point plateau.
