Season Preview: Talented Setters to Guide Chippewas

Editors Note: This article is part one of a three-part preview looking at each position of the Central Michigan volleyball program as it prepares for the 2012 season.
MOUNT PLEASANT - The key to a strong attack for the Central Michigan volleyball program will reside with two talented setters in 2012.
Junior veteran Kelly Maxwell and freshman newcomer Jordan Timmer will look to guide the Chippewas' offense as it seeks its first Mid-American Conference regular-season title in program history and second-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Coming off a season in which she posted the second-most assists in the MAC and earned MAC All-Tournament team honors, Maxwell will look to take the next step as the leader of an offense that ranked in the top five as a team in hitting percentage, assists and kills in 2011.
Maxwell finished her sophomore season with 1,314 assists to rank second in the MAC, while her 10.95 assists/set ranked fourth in the league. Her assist mark was the fifth-most on CMU's all-time single season list and she will look to build on her 1,381 career assists, which rank fifth all-time in program history.
Timmer will push Maxwell for playing time and drive competition in the gym during the 2012 campaign after the freshman joined the Maroon and Gold during the winter semester to speed up her acclimation process to Division I volleyball.
A product of Lowell High School and the Michigan Volleyball Academy, Timmer was a PrepVolleyball Senior Ace and an Andi Collin Award finalist her senior season. She was named a Class A Second-Team All-State selection and to the 2011 Under Armour High School All-American Watch List.
