MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan volleyball program will see its first live, competitive action Saturday when it hosts its annual Maroon and Gold Scrimmage inside McGuirk Arena.
The scrimmage is set to begin at 3 p.m. and is free of charge.
The defending Mid-American Conference Tournament champion Chippewas return seven letterwinners and five starters from a year ago and are poised to make a run at their first MAC regular season title in program history.
"We are a lot further along than we have been at this point in the past," head coach Erik Olson said. "We have put a total product together. We are a pretty good product as is right now."
In addition to the 15 members of the 2012 squad, three alumnae will join the Chippewas on the court as a part of the event.
Lisa Johnson (2007-10), Sarah Warner (2004-08) and Kelly Janisch (2005-07) will provide the Maroon and Gold with veteran experience in an attempt to increase competition.
"We are going to try a lot of different lineups and we have some athletes that are still cross-training," Olson said. "This intrasquad really helps us with our coaching staff to allow them an opportunity to work on their communication with the players in a match-like scenario."
The Chippewas open the regular season August 24 at the Green Bay/Country Inn & Suites Tournament versus Auburn.
