Mount Pleasant, Mich. - Niki DiGuilio of the women's basketball program has been named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
DiGuilio averaged 15.7 points per game and shot 48.1 percent from behind the three-point line versus the likes of Kansas, No. 2 Duke and Xavier at the Paradise Jam to earn All-Tournament Team honors. DiGuilio made 13 triples over the three games, including six in the Chippewas’ victory 88-62 victory over Xavier in which the Maroon and Gold set a program record with 18 threes.
The senior came out on fire versus No. 2 Duke, scoring 11 of the Chippewas’ first 13 points as CMU jumped out to 22-18 lead halfway through the first half. She led the Chippewas in scoring in two of the three contests and is now just 21 three-point field goals shy of becoming the program’s all time leader.
DiGuilio and the Chippewas play their first home game of the season Thursday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. when they host Dayton.
