MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan softball coach Margo Jonker will be inducted next week into the Metro Detroit Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame.
It will mark the sixth time that Jonker, who is in her 36th year as CMU's head coach, has been enshrined in a hall of fame.
"I'm honored," said Jonker, who will enter the hall under the Meritorious Service category. "Realistically, all the accolades go to all of the student-athletes that we've had from that part of the state.
"We've been fortunate enough to have had a number of players from that part of the state, and those players have been successful. I'm grateful that they chose to come to Central Michigan and play in our program.
"I'm certainly honored that our paths crossed for the time that they were Chippewas."
Jonker will be inducted along with four others on Tuesday, Oct. 7, during a ceremony at the San Marino Club in Troy, Mich. She is part of the organization's 21st class.
Jonker, who has amassed a 1,150-714-5 record at CMU, is among the longest-serving and widely respected coaches in the college game.
She is also a member of the National Softball Coaches Association, Holland West Ottawa High School, Grand Valley State University, and Michigan Amateur Softball Association halls of fame. She coached the 1982 Chippewas to a fourth-place finish in the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women national finals. Jonker and her team were inducted into the Central Michigan University Marcy Weston Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013.
