MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan junior guard Chris Fowler has been honored on the 2014-15 Mid-American Conference Preseason All-West Division Team, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Fowler is the only junior to be recognized on either the MAC East or West teams. All other honorees are seniors or graduate students.
"This is a well-deserved honor for a player that is recognized by our fans and opponents as one of the better guards in the conference," said CMU head coach Keno Davis. "Chris has been a cornerstone of this program as we have developed and improved over the last two years and we look for him to continue to make significant contributions both as a leader and player in 2014-15."
A three-year team captain, Fowler has started every game of his collegiate career, 62 in total, reliably running the Chippewas' offense from his point guard position. The only CMU player to ever average more than five assists per game in back-to-back seasons, Fowler is already ranked seventh in program history with 339 assists and will break the all-time record by the end of his junior season at his current pace. He is also poised to break onto the points and steals record list this year. A Second Team NABC All-District selection in 2014, Fowler led the team and ranked third in the MAC with a 17.4 points per game scoring average a year ago and his 60 steals were the most by a Chippewa since the 1978-79 season.
Central Michigan was selected fourth in the MAC Division in the preseason poll, receiving 49 votes, including one first place vote. The poll was determined by a 20-member MAC News Media Panel.
The 2014-15 Chippewas will make their debut on Sunday, Nov. 9 when they host Saginaw Valley State for a 1 p.m. exhibition game in McGuirk Arena.
