KENT, Ohio -- The Central Michigan volleyball team was defeated by Kent State in five sets Saturday night, dropping the Chippewas to 9-15 overall, 4-8 in the Mid-American Conference.
The Chippewas dropped the first two sets, 26-24, 25-20, before claiming the third, 25-19, and fourth, 25-19. The Golden Flashes sealed the victory with a 15-13 edge in the fifth.
The loss was the second this week in which CMU battled back from a two-set deficit, force a fifth, and lose 15-13 in that final set. The first occurred Thursday in a MAC match at Eastern Michigan.
"We didn't really take advantage of some opportunities in the early sets, and digging ourselves into that hole was disappointing, but we did recover well," Central Michian coach Erik Olson said. "We made some offensive and personnel changes in the third set, and that changed the whole match, really made it a whole new match."
Senior outside hitter Kaitlyn McIntyre led the Chippewas in kills with 15, while Angelique White had 14 and Jordan Bueter added 12 apiece. Senior setter Danielle Thompson had 23 assists, while freshman Kylie Copple had 12.
Kristen Reenders made 22 digs, while Nicole Czehowski had 12 and McIntyre added 11. CMU recorded 12 blocks on the night, with six coming from senior middle blocker Hallie Enderle. CMU had a total of 23 errors on the attack and recorded a hitting percentage of .156.
"I'm very proud of our teams effort tonight," Olson said. "It always hurts to lose in five, but we played a lot better after going down 0-2."
Liz Reikow finished with 15 kills for the Golden Flashes (13-12, 5-7 MAC).
The Chippewas face Ball State (13-11, 7-4 MAC) at home on Friday Nov. 7.
