Andy Sneddon, CMUChippewas.comMOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Five Central Michigan student-athletes along with coach Cristy Freese were honored Thursday with the release of the All-Mid-American Conference field hockey team.
Freese, who is in her 29th year as CMU's coach, was named Coach of the Year for the fourth time after leading the Chippewas to the regular-season co-championship. It was CMU's first league crown since 2002.
Chippewa senior Cayleigh Immelman and sophomore Maude Stalars were named to the All-MAC First Team, while three Chippewas - seniors Mary Alice Moore and Sadie Lynn Reynolds, and junior Kaysie Gregory - each landed a spot on the second team.
Immelman leads the Chippewas with nine goals and shares the team lead, with Gregory, with 19 points. Four of her goals have been game-winners, which ranks second in the MAC. Immelman leads the Chippewas in shots (39) and shots on goal (25).
The 19 points amassed by Immelman and Gregory tie them for fifth in the league.
Stalars has picked up three assists for three points on the season. She has registered 23 shots, which ranks second on the team, and her 12 shots on goal rank third. She also has one defensive save to her credit.
Gregory has six goals and seven assists. Her assist total ranks fourth in the league.
Moore has two goals and an assist for five points on just five shots on goal this season. She is one of four Chippewas -- Immelman, Reynolds and Jordyn Brengosz are the others -- to have started all 18 of CMU's games.
Reynolds has played every minute of every Chippewa game this season and leads the MAC in saves (143), saves per game (7.94), and save percentage (.730). She has recorded two shutouts.
The Chippewas (7-11) play Ohio (4-2) on Friday at 11:30 a.m. in a MAC Tournament semifinal game at Kent State. Miami (Ohio) (4-2) and Kent State (5-1) meet in the other semifinal at 2 p.m.
The championship game is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday. The Chippewas last won the MAC Tournament in 2005.
