MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - PrepVolleyball.com has included Central Michigan's 2014 recruiting class in its national Top 100.
"We are reloading with some top-notch talent that has made major impacts on their respective prep and club teams," said coach Erik Olson, who is entering his 11th season at the helm of the Chippewas.
This marks the seventh time in the last 10 years that an Olson recruiting class has made PrepVolleyball.com's Top 100.
The new Chippewas are Jordan Bueter, a 6-foot outside hitter from South Bend, Indiana (Mishawaka Marian High School); Paige Carey, a 6-foot middle blocker from Royal Oak, Michigan (Bloomfield Hills Marian High School); Kylie Copple, a 6-foot setter and a product of Centennial, Colorado (Grandview High School); and Courtney Hiltibran, a 5-4 defensive specialist from Urbana, Ohio (Mechanicsburg High School).
Bueter is a well-rounded player with a big arm whose skill set compares favorably to that of senior Kaitlyn McInytre, the Chippewas' top point scorer for the past three seasons. Bueter helped lead Mishawaka Marian to the Indiana Class 3A state semifinals in 2013, when she earned All-State honors for the fourth time in her prep career. Bueter is expected to make an immediate impact.
Copple set in a true 6-2, setting in the backrow and attacking in the front row for Grandview in helping lead the Wolves to the Colorado 5A state championship in 2013. As a senior at Grandview, Copple was named to PrepVolleyball.com's Senior Ace "The 150" list, and had previously earned recognition on the organization's Frosh 59 and Soph 79 lists.
Copple is expected to challenge for the starting setting job at CMU and will be the most physical setter Olson has had in his tenure in Mount Pleasant.
Carey is a scoring machine in the middle with a quick jump and a fast arm hitting a zero tempo set.
She helped lead Bloomfield Hills Marian to a runner-up finish in the Michigan Class A state tournament in 2013, and was a two-time All-Stater for the Mustangs. She was also named to the Senior Ace "The 150" list by PrepVolleyball.com.
Hiltibran brings an unmatched work ethic and became the first player in Mechanicsburg High School history to earn all-district honors. She was an Ohio All-State honorable mention as a senior and was named a Defensive Dandy by PrepVolleyball.com in both 2012 and '13.
The Chippewas will also benefit in the back row as 5-11 junior Nicole Czehowski transfers from Grand Rapids Community College, where she played on the Raiders' National Junior College Athletic Association Division II National Championship team in 2012.
The website ranks in order the top 30 recruiting classes in the country. Penn State garnered the top spot.
The next 25 schools are grouped into the Highest Honorable Mention category, and the remainder comprise the High Honorable Mention list. Both honorable mention groups are listed alphabetically.
Only the class signed by Western Michigan was rated ahead of CMU among Mid-American Conference schools.
