
CMU Volleyball Falls at Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, Mich. — The Central Michigan volleyball team fell to Eastern Michigan in four sets Thursday night, dropping the Chippewas to 6-10, 1-2 in the Mid-American Conference.
Eastern Michigan improves to 9-7, 1-2 with the victory.
CMU dropped the opening set 25-19, before bouncing back to win set two, 25-21. The Eagles proved to be too much as they took sets three and four, 25-18, 25-22, respectively.
"I thought we played some good volleyball tonight," said CMU coach Erik Olson. "It kind of came down to our serving, I thought we could have been more aggressive with our serves.
"I also thought we struggled on our transition swings along with our blocking. We have a good blocking group, we just didn't use it very well tonight."
Sophomore outside hitter Taylor Robertson turned in a solid offensive performance for CMU, notching a team-high 16 kills on a .414 hitting percentage.
In extended playing timem sophomore middle blocker Paige Carey provided CMU with a spark, recording six kills, four blocks and a team high .600 hitting percentage.
"Paige was great tonight, she's been on the rise," Olson said. "I started to notice it in her blocking against NIU but she was really good offensively tonight as well."
Setter Kathia Sanchez finished with 41 digs in the loss. Freshman Jamie Wolffis brought up 21 digs from the libero position.
The Eagles outhit The Chippewas with a .275 hitting percentage compared to the .241 posted by CMU.
Senior Stacey Perinar led the way for EMU with 15.
The Chippewas will come home to resume MAC play on Saturday, with a match against Kent State at 8 p.m. in McGuirk Arena.
