BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. — The Central Michigan volleyball team will end its road trip with a 1-1 record, and will do so with the look of much-improved team.
The Chippewas downed Bowling Green, 3-0, Friday night to improve to 9-12 with a 4-4 mark in the Mid-American Conference. The Falcons are 5-15, 1-6.
The win comes on the heels of a five-set loss 24 hours earlier at Miami (Ohio). In that match, CMU became the first team this season to win a set against the RedHawks on their home court.
"I thought we did an amazing job of bouncing back after a real tough loss (Thursday) night," associate head coach Theresa Beeckman said. "I don't think we were as sharp as we could have been, but I'm real proud of how they responded."
CMU set the tone in the first set, defeating Bowling Green, 25-20. The Chippewas held of two late rallies in sets two and three, 25-23, 25-20 to secure the match. CMU has won three of its last four matches.
"We really wanted to be more aggressive with our serve tonight," said Beeckman. "That allowed to get some people in the game later on in sets."
Sophomore outside hitter Jordan Bueter led the Chippewas with nine kills and 14 digs. Senior middle blocker Kalle Mulford added eight kills on a season-high .667 hitting percentage. Angie White finished with seven kills.
"We wanted to get both Angie and Kalle more involved offensively in front of the net," Beeckman said. "Kalle was working very hard tonight and you saw that in her hitting percentage."
Junior Kathia Sanchez contributed 26 assists from the setter position, while libero Jamison Wolffis finished with 11 digs.
The Chippewas return to McGuirk Arena for its next five matches, all against MAC competition, beginning with a date next Friday against Akron. They will entertain Buffalo on Saturday. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
