MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — The Central Michigan volleyball team went into Saturdays Mid-American Conference match against Kent State with a specific game plan.
Blocking and Serving issues hindered the Chippewas from executing that plan, as they fell, 3-1, in their first MAC match of the season at McGuirk Arena.
CMU slips to 6-11 and 1-3 in the MAC. Kent State is 8-8, 2-2.
"This team did what we scouted exactly and we just kind of let them go by us," said CMU coach Erik Olson. "We didn't get in their way, we got out blocked 7-6, and we are way more capable then that."
The Chippewas looked sharp in the early going, taking set one, 25-22.
Kent State bounced back to claim three straight sets, 25-20, 25-21 and 25-21.
CMU totaled 24 attack errors compared to the 17 posted by Kent State.
Sophomore outside hitter Jordan Bueter led CMU in kills with 13. Taylor Robertson finished with 11.
The Chippewas finished with a 54 percent sideout percentage. The Golden Flashes finished at 64 percent.
"We just didn't execute the scouting report like coach said and that's something we can totally control, it's something we can get better at and something we are going to work towards everyday," CMU sophomore outside hitter Taylor Robertson said.
Chippewa setter Kathia Sanchez compiled 34 assists on the night. Jamie Wolffis led the team with 13 digs.
The Chippewas remain at home next weekend, taking on MAC-West leading Ball State (9-8, 3-0) on Friday and Toledo (3-14, 0-4) on Saturday.
