MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — There was attitude and a massive energy level in McGuirk Arena Friday night, and the Central Michigan volleyball team had the look of a team that was not going to be beat.
This proved to be accurate, as the Chippewas dusted Mid-American Conference opponent Ball State in four sets to move to 7-11 on the season, 2-3 in the MAC.
Ball State falls to 9-9, 3-2.
CMU came out with a vengeance, claiming set one, 25-13, and set two, 25-21. The Cardinals squeaked out a 25-23 win in set three, which only fueled the Chippewas as they put the match away in set four, 25-11.
"As I like to say all the time, winning is so much better than not winning," said associate head coach Theresa Beeckman. "I thought the team was pretty dang good at what they were doing tonight.
"As far as execution goes, and as far the energy goes, I just couldn't be more proud to be a part of this team."
The Chippewas finished the match with a .278 hitting percentage. Ball State managed just .054.
Sophomore outside hitter Jordan Bueter had a stellar night, notching a team-leading 16 kills, 11 digs and a season-high .533 hitting percentage.
"Honestly the entire atmosphere out there tonight was just really fun," Bueter said. "We all embraced each other and said let's have fun tonight."
Senior middle blocker Angie White finished with eight kills and three of the 12 Chippewa blocks in the win.
Junior setter Kathia Sanchez amassed 36 assists and freshman libero Jamison Wolffis brought up 20 digs to lead the CMU defensively.
The Chippewas will be back in action Saturday at 7 p.m. as they take on Toledo in a MAC match at McGuirk. The Rockets, who have lost six straight, are 3-15, 0-5 after fallin in three sets Friday at Eastern Michigan.
