MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Central Michigan volleyball team finished off its 2015 home schedule victorious Thursday, beating Eastern Michigan 3-1.
The Chippewas move to 11-15 overall with a 6-7 mark in the Mid-American Conference. EMU is 12-14, 4-9.
After a tough 0-2 homestand last weekend, CMU came out looking like a different team, battling to take set one, 25-27.
The Eagles bounced back to take set two, 25-22. After back and fourth battles throughout the Chippewas took sets three and four, 25-23, 25-21, to take the match.
"That was a dog fight, holy cow, I couldn't be more proud," CMU associate head coach Theresa Beeckman said. "This has been an interesting couple of weeks for us to come out and do that against that team was great."
Defensive was the name of the game for both teams as they both had a hitting percentage below the .200 marks, .090 for EMU, .185 for CMU. Each team finished with 96 digs
"Hats off to Eastern Michigan and their fight, but boy did we bring it, and we had some outstanding performances and some gutsy performances and I couldn't be more happy," Beeckman said.
Sophomore outside hitter Jordan Bueter made her return to the Chippewa lineup after missing the last two matches with injury. She picked up right where she left off tallying a team leading 16 kills on a .280 hitting percentage.
"I felt great, it's definitely weird being out and coming back," Bueter sadi. " It makes you much more grateful for your team."
Taylor Robertson registered 15 kills for CMU, while Kalle Mulford had 11 kills.
After a rough match against Northern Illinois last weekend, CMU freshman libero Jamison Wolffis bounced back to record a career-high 31 digs.
"Well obviously it was a big game for us tonight," Wolffis said. "The block picked up and that helped our defense as a whole and we communicated a lot better and got the job done."
Senior defensive specialist Haley Barker had a season-high 19 digs for the Chippewas, while Bueter added 16. CMU setter Kathia Sanchez finished with 45 assists.
Outside hitter Stacey Perinar led the Eagles with 14 kills.
The Chippewas, who are seventh in the overall league standings (the top eight teams make the MAC Tournament) will head to Athens, Ohio on Saturday for a matchup with the Bobcats.
Ohio is 20-6, 10-3, and shares the MAC East lead with Kent State. The Bobcats fell to Kent State in four sets on Thursday.
