MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan football program has signed quarterback Tommy Lazzaro of Monument, Colo.
"I am excited to have Tommy join our program," CMU head coach John Bonamego said. "He is a proven winner who is a big, strong kid with a lot of the intangibles we look for in a quarterback."
Lazzaro, who is listed at 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, will be a sophomore and eligible to play in the 2016 season. He spent last season at Dodge City (Kan.) Community College, where he threw for 2,237 yards while completing 57.5 percent of his pass attempts and 14 touchdowns against nine interceptions. He also ran for five touchdowns.
Lazzaro led the Conquistadors to a 9-3 finish in 2015, tying a program record for victories in a season. Dodge City lost to Snow (Utah) College, 38-14, in the Salt City Bowl.
Lazzaro led Pine Creek High School to back-to-back Class 4A Colorado state championships in 2013-14. He set school records with 3,340 yards passing and 37 touchdown passes.
A three-year letter winner at Pine Creek, Lazzaro led the Eagles to conference championships in all three seasons, which included a 24-game win streak.
