MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Central Michigan men's and women's indoor track & field teams will hit the road for Geneva, Ohio, this weekend as they will be attending the Spire Collegiate Invitational.
The two-day invitational will begin Friday at 2 p.m. and resume Saturday at 10 a.m.
There will be 30 teams attending the Spire Collegiate Invitational, many from the Mid-American Conference. The Spire Institute, which is over 750,000 square feet, is one of the biggest indoor sporting complexes in the nation.
"This meet is probably one of the nicest indoor facilities in America (with a) 300-meter track, runs really fast," said Mark Guthrie, CMU director of track & field/cross country. "It's going to have really great competition. Last week (Notre Dame) and this week are two pretty good tests for our student athletes to see where they're at, and see how they handle the competition. I think it's pretty good preparation for the MAC meet here in two weeks."
The Chippewas will be sending 40 athletes to the Spire.
"They've had the whole season up to this point to get on the bus for this trip. These are the kids that deserve it," said Guthrie.
Following the Spire, the Chippewas will be heading to Allendale, Mich., to attend the Grand Valley State Tune-up on Friday, Feb. 20. On Saturday, Feb. 21, CMU will go to Ann Arbor for the Silverston Invitational.
