MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Great season, just rewards.
Central Michigan basketball coach Keno Davis and junior guard Chris Fowler picked up two more honors Friday, these from the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
Fowler was named to the All-District 14 First Team and Davis was named the District 14 Coach of the Year.
In his third season at CMU, Davis led the Chippewas to a remarkable turnaround as they finished 23-9, winning the regular-season Mid-American Conference championship after finishing 11th in the preseason media poll.
The Chippewas also reached the league tournament championship game and earned a berth in the NIT.
It marked the first time since 2003 that CMU has won the MAC title, reached the league tournament championship game, and made a post-season appearance. Davis, in his third year at CMU, earned the MAC Coach of the Year Award.
Fowler led the Chippewas in scoring (16.2 points per game) and assists (6.1) and during the 2014-15 season became the school's all-time leader in assists.
He was named to the All-Mid-American Conference First Team and was runner-up in the league's player of the year voting. He finished as the conference's fourth-leading scorer and its top assist man, and ranked 12th nationally in assists per game.
The NABC divides the nation into 25 districts and honors 10 players from each district, signifying a five-player first team and a five-player second team. Each district names one coach of the year.
Earlier this week, Fowler was named to the Lou Henson All-America team, becoming a finalist for the Lou Henson Award which goes annually to the top player from an NCAA Division I mid-major university.
Davis has been named a finalist for two national coaching awards, the Skip Prosser Man of the Year and the Hugh Durham National Coach of the Year.
