MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Mackenzie Lawler has been named as an assistant coach of the budding Central Michigan women's lacrosse program.
Lawler joins Sara Tisdale, who was named in July as the first coach in program history. CMU will begin its first varsity lacrosse season in spring, 2016, as a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference along with Detroit, Stetson, Jacksonville, Furman, Mercer, Old Dominion, Kennesaw State and Howard.
In November, Tisdale announced the signing of her first recruiting class.
"I am thrilled to add Mackenzie to our staff," Tisdale said. "Mackenzie brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience with her."
Lawler has worked under Tisdale at CMU as a volunteer assistant coach since August, helping in talent evaluation and recruitment.
Lawler was a four-year letter winner and three-year starter at midfield at Robert Morris (Pa.), graduating in 2014 with a bachelor of science degree. She was a four-time All-State selection at a player at Okemos High School, from which she graduated in 2010.
Lawler owns and operates Mi Elite Lacrosse in Okemos, has coached on several levels both in Michigan and in Pennsylvania, and has been the head coach and Michigan coordinator for U.S. Lacrosse.
"As a former Division I student-athlete, Mackenzie has a great knowledge of the game and understands what it takes to be a successful student-athlete," Tisdale said. "Mackenzie and I share a common goal of building CMU lacrosse into a respected program and a program that competes for an Atlantic Sun championship consistently."
