
CMU's Kelto 7th in Steeplechase at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Abby Kelto placed seventh and two relay teams turned in solid showings Saturday for the Central Michigan track & field team at the prestigious Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania.
Kelto continued to add to her senior-year success as placed seventh in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase in 10 minutes, 39.43 seconds, a personal best by some 13 seconds.
CMU placed 10th in the men's 4x400 relay and 16th in the women's 4x400 relay. The men's team, comprising Erick Huertas, Malik Vasquez, Clay Holman and Ziemowit Dutkiewicz finished in 3:12.98.
Ravyn Baxter, Bridget Doughty, Kelsey Ross and Emma Fishnick team up in the women's relay to finish in 3:49.23.
Chippewa track and field student-athletes competed in two other meets this weekend, the RedHawk Invitational at Miami (Ohio) and the Ashland (Ohio) Alumni Meet.
The RedHawk Invitational was called midway through because of lightning.
Before the meet was called, the CMU men notched five top-five placed in two events.
The Chippewas' Shane Moffo (15.14), Chaz Bradshaw (15.14), and Aaron Taylor (15.27), finished in third, fourth and fifth, respectively, place in the men's 110-meter hurdles. Taylor's time was a personal best.
CMU's Archie Sullivan placed third and Steven Green was fifth in the men's 400. Sullivan finished in 49.42, Green in 50.0.
For the CMU women, Wendy Szuminski recorded a PR of 16 feet, 6 ½ inches in the long jump.
At Ashland, CMU's Kylee Dobbelaere won the women's hammer throw at 56.92 meters, while Devene Brown won the women's discus with a toss of 52.57 meters.
Brown also finished sixth in the shot put at 14.71 meters.
For the CMU men, Cole Walderzak finished third, with a throw of 63.88 meters, in the hammer throw while Dylan Banagis was sixth at 59.35.
In the discus, Walderzak finished second at 54.56 meters and Banagis was fourth at 53.14.
Next up for the Chippewas is the Jesse Owens Invitational at Ohio State on Friday and Saturday.
