COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Only two weeks out from the Mid-American Conference Championships, the Central Michigan track & field teams will get their final tune-ups this weekend at the Jesse Owens Track & Field Classic, hosted by Ohio State.
The event begins on Friday and concludes Saturday.
"It will prove to be a good challenge," said Mark Guthrie, CMU's director of track and field. "It's the right meet at the right time for us.
"It's a good final tune-up two weeks out from the conference meet. We're going to put our kids in the events we think we're going to need to have them in. It's a good meet and we're happy to be part of it."
The competition will be stiff as some 35 universities will be represented, including the host Buckeyes, who won the women's Big Ten Indoor Championships.
The Chippewas plan to send 50 student-athletes to compete. Many of the them are chasing two different marks, one for NCAA first-round qualififications, the other for a seed in the MAC Championships, which are scheduled for May 14-16, at Ball State.
Last weekend, much of the team wasn't able to compete due to weather at the RedHawk Invitational at Miami (Ohio).
CMU will not partake in the meet at Western Michigan on Friday, May 8, but may instead attend a different competition.
