CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Central Michigan's Abbey Kelto and Ethan Lievense received the Mid-American Conference Medal of Excellence Award at the league's Honors Dinner Ceremony Wednesday at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel.
Kelto and Lievense are among 23 student-athletes representing each of the 12 MAC institutions to receive the Medal of Excellence.
"The Medal of Excellence Award is a reinforcement of the core values that we as a conference and each of our member institutions all possess with excellence in academics, athletics, leadership and service," MAC Commissioner Jon A. Steinbrecher said. "We congratulate all of our Medal of Excellence Award winners."
Kelto, a senior from Munising and an exercise science major who carries a 3.73 grade point average, holds four CMU women's track and field records, the outdoors 10,000-meter and 3,000-meter steeplechase, and the indoor 3,000- and 5,000-meters.
Last fall, Kelto ran to First Team All-MAC cross country honors and became just the second female cross country runner in CMU history to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Kelto will run in the 10,000 meters this weekend at the NCAA Outdoor Championships First Round in Jacksonville, Fla.
Lievense, a senior from Saugatuck, is a sport management major who carries a 3.60 GPA. Lievense helped the Chippewa men to a third-place finish in the MAC cross country Championships last fall, and is a member of the CMU indoor distance medley relay team, which holds the school record.
