MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Five members of the Central Michigan men's basketball team were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court, recognizing student-athletes who excelled academically during the 2014-15 season.
CMU's Chris Fowler, Blake Hibbitts, Tony Larkins, John Simons and Austin Stewart were named to the court. In order to be considered, a player must be a junior or senior and carry at least a 3.2 grade point average.
With five honorees, Central Michigan ranks third among Division I teams in the country, behind Utah Valley (eight) and Morehead State (six), and is first among Mid-American Conference schools.
On Wednesday, CMU was recognized by the NABC with the Team Academic Excellence Award, which goes to a program with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better for the 2014-15 season.
CMU is one of 175 institutions, one of just 19 in Division I, and the only MAC member to have earned that prestigious distinction, and it marked the second time in three years that the Chippewas have been so honored.
