MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Central Michigan women's basketball team will head to the West Coast this Thanksgiving weekend as it competes in the Cal Poly Tournament on Friday and Saturday in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
The Chippewas (2-2), who are coming off a 70-67 double-overtime home victory over Oakland on Tuesday, will open the tournament on Friday (4:30 p.m.) against Utah Valley (0-4). They close the tournament with at 2 p.m. game with North Dakota State (1-3) on Saturday.
The Wolverines, who play in the Western Athletic Conference, are coming off an 83-50 loss to Eastern Washington. Taylor Gordan leads Utah Valley, averaging 14 points per game.
North Dakota State, which plays in the Summit League, are coming off a 76-59 loss to Colorado. The Bison are led by Taylor Thundset, who averages 16 points per contest.
Junior guard Cassie Breen posted a career-high 33 points in CMU's win over the Golden Grizzles. She leads the Chippewas and is fifth in the Mid-American Conference in scoring averaging 19.5 points per game.
Senior forward Jewel Cotton is second on the Chippewas, averaging 15.5 points per contest. Reyna Frost leads CMU and is first in the MAC in rebounding averaging 12 per contest.
After Saturday's matchup the Chippewas will return to action on Dec. 1 as they play host to Loyola Chicago on Dec. 1 at noon McGuirk Arena.
