Miami Notebook: Rush Moves Into Second Place

OXFORD, Ohio - Overshadowed by the mounting frustration of a third consecutive loss was the statistical historical significance of Cooper Rush in the Central Michigan football program.
The senior quarterback threw for 242 yards in Friday's 37-17 loss to Miami (Ohio), bringing his career total to 12,129 career yards which ranks second all-time among Mid-American Conference signal-callers.
Rush, who completed 21 of 32 pass attempts, entered the game ranked fourth on the list. He passed Marshall's Byron Leftwich and Miami's Zac Dysert. Leftwich threw for 11,903 yards from 1999-2002; Dysert for 12,013 from 2009-12.
Rush trails only former CMU great Dan LeFevour, who threw for 12,905 yards from 2006-09, leading the Chippewas to three MAC championships during that span.
Rush ranks fifth in league history with 1,532 pass attempts and ranks seventh with 952 completions.
• Jahray Hayes led the Chippewa ground game with 60 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. He leads the Chippwas with seven rushing touchdowns this season and ranks third on the team with 42 points.
• Corey Willis and Brandon Childress led the Chippewa receiving corps with five receptions apiece. Willis totaled 73 yards, Childress 65.
• Senior safety Tony Annese matched his career-high with 11 tackles, six of them solo. He also made 11 stops against Minnesota in the 2015 Quick Lane Bowl.
• Cornerback Amari Coleman also tied his career-high with eight stops. Coleman made eight stops three weeks ago against Northern Illinois.
• Middle linebacker Malik Fountain also finished with eight stops.
• Defensive end Joe Ostman recorded a sack, bringing his season total to a team-high six.
• Jack Sheldon and Cooper Mojsiejenko shared the punting duties for CMU. Sheldon averaged 38.5 yards on two punts, while Mojsiejenko punted once for 35 yards.
• Freshman Kaden Keon handled the kickoff duties for the Chippewas, averaging 51.8 yards on four kickoffs.
