MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan lacrosse team will open its second season of varsity play on Feb. 16, 2017 at St. Francis (Pa.).
The Chippewas' 17-game regular-season schedule was released last week. CMU, which finished 6-10 a year ago, has added two non-conference opponents, St. Francis and Butler, in 2017.
In addition, the Chippewas will also face Atlantic Sun Conference newcomers Coastal Carolina and Delaware State. CMU will play host to Coastal Carolina on March 31, and is scheduled to go to Delaware State on April 21.
CMU's home opener is scheduled for Feb. 23 against Marquette, and the conference opener is March 24 at home against Mercer. The Chippewas finished 6-10 last season in league play.
"What I'm looking forward to the most is seeing these teams again, and with a squad that has a little bit deeper bench," said CMU coach Sara Tisdale, whose roster comprised nearly all freshmen in 2016. "I feel like the games that we didn't come away from with a win at the end of last season was a result of just not having a enough legs to finish a game.
"This year, with the roster the way it is, I like our chances in a lot more of these games in turning more of those non-wins into wins."
The Chippewas will play nine home games, including non-leaguers with Cincinnati and Gardner-Webb, and close the regular-season at home against Detroit.
The schedule includes an April 9 road game against defending ASUN regular-season champion Jacksonville and an April 13 home match with Old Dominion, which last year won the ASUN Tournament and reached the NCAA Tournament.
