
Chippewa Women Tip Off Twinbill vs. Illinois-Chicago

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Central Michigan women's basketball team will look to extend its winning streak to five Saturday as it welcomes Illinois Chicago for a nonconference matchup at 1 p.m. at McGuirk Arena.
The Chippewas (5-2) are coming off of a 95-57 blowout victory over Loyola Chicago on Thursday afternoon. The CMU-UIC game is the opener of a Chippewa doubleheader. The CMU men are scheduled to play Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the nightcap at 4:30 p.m.
CMU coach Sue Guevara was encouraged by her team's offensive outburst Thursday, but is expecting a much more defensively sound UIC team on Saturday and emphasized bench consistency as key factor.
UIC (2-3) is allowing 62.2 points per game, which ranks fourth in the Horizon League. The Flames, who fell, 79-51, at Toledo on Thursday, are fifth in the conference in scoring (70).
CMU is ranked fourth in the Mid-American Conference in field goal percentage (.413) and fifth in scoring at 71.1 points per game.
Senior forward Jewel Cotton leads the Chippewas at 15 points per game and ranks No. 6 nationally in field goal percentage (.687).
Junior guard Cassie Breen is averaging 14.9 points per contest and is CMU's top sharpshooter, having connected on .356 percent of her 3-point attempts.
Reyna Frost, a sophomore forward, paces the Chippewas on the glass and is tied for No. 4 spot in the nation at 12.4 rebounds per game.
Taylor Jones leads the Flames scoring attack with 10 points per game. Teodora
Zagorac is the top rebounder at 7.4 per game.
Concluding Saturday's game CMU will hit the road next Tuesday for a matchup with Purdue (4-4) at 7 p.m.
