
Chippewas Start Tourney With 2 Losses

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - The Central Michigan softball team finished with just nine hits Friday in dropping its first two games in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic at Big League Dreams.
The Chippewas fell to Texas A&M, 11-1; and to Cal Poly, 7-0.
CMU (3-4) is scheduled to play Arizona and Washington on Saturday, and closes the classic on Sunday with a noon game against Arkansas.
The Chippewas and Arizona are slated to play at 1 p.m., while the Chippewas and Huskies will play at 5 p.m. Washington (6-0) is ranked ninth, the Wildcats (7-0) are 10th.
Rachael Knapp started for CMU and took the loss against Texas A&M (6-1). She allowed six runs on five hits while walking three over two innings. Laura Vaccaro pitched the final three innings in relief. She surrendered five runs on five hits, walked four and struck out three.
Evelyn Lorimer accounted for the Chippewas' lone run - their only run of the day - with a pinch-hit home run in the fifth inning.
Chelsea DeLamielleure, Katelyn Rentschler and Rachel Vieira each singled for the Chippewas.
Cal Poly (4-2) scored all seven of its runs in the third inning in its victory over the Chippewas. The Mustangs collected 10 hits in the game, seven in the third inning, highlighted by Chelsea Convissar's three-run triple.
Hanna Warren started and took the loss. She allowed seven runs on eight hits over 2 1/3 innings. She struck out two and walked one. Knapp relieved and went the final 3 2/3 frames, allowing two hits while walking two and striking out seven.
CarolAnn Sexauer had two hits to lead the Chippewas at the plate, while Taylor Lewallen doubled, and Rentschler and DeLamielleure each singled.
