MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan men's and women's cross country teams earned All-Academic recognition from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Chippewas were among 205 women's teams and 172 men's team so honored.
The CMU women recorded a cumulative 3.51 grade point average, the men a 3.49, which put them among the top 20 in the nation.
It is the second consecutive year that both CMU squads have been honored.
"Jen Gellock and the entire academic services staff should be praised for all their hard work and dedication to our student-athletes," associated head coach Matt Kaczor said. "I'm really excited that both teams averaged a 3.5 GPA. That takes a lot of time commitment to have everybody on the same page to accomplish this goal of ours."
"Matt and I are extremely proud of the efforts both of our cross country teams put forth, both in the classroom and in their running," said Mark Guthrie, CMU's director of track & field and cross country. "While it is simple to say 'student-athlete,' it takes devotion and commitment to be successful in both endeavors."
