Brown's Shot Put Second Leads CMU at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Devene Brown recorded the top finish among Central Michigan student-athletes Saturday during the second and final day of the 29th annual Meyo Indoor Track and Field Invitational at Notre Dame's Loftus Sports Center.
Brown, a senior who earned Second Team All-America honors during the 2015 outdoor season, finished second Saturday in the women's shot put with a toss of 52 feet, 7 ¼ inches.
The CMU men recorded seven top-10 finishes on Saturday, giving the Chippweas 16 top 10s during the two-day event, which included some 40 teams.
CMU's Cole Walderzak, who placed second on Friday in the weight throw, finished sixth in the shot put with a toss of 56-5 ¾. Teammate Kevin Weiler placed ninth at 55-2 ¼.
The Chippewa men got seventh-place finishes from Sam Wagner and Jake Peister. Wagner cleared 15-11 3/4 in the pole vault, while Peister went 49-10 ½ in the triple jump. CMU's Tony Armstrong placed 10th in the pole vault, also clearing 15-11 ¾.
Freshman Benjamin Hayes recorded a pair of top 10s for CMU. He joined Erick Huertas, Ziemowit and Quincy Briggs in placing ninth in the 1,600-meter relay in 3:13.65. Hayes was 10th in the 400 (47.63).
Huertas finished 16th in the 400-meter dash.
The CMU women got a 14th-place finish from Shaya Wilkerson in the triple jump, while Samantha Cuneo, Simonae Dismuke, Gabriella Beauvais and Lexi Mielke combined to place 14th in the 1,600 relay.
