MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Logan Halvorson of the Central Michigan women's lacrosse team was named the Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Week.
Halvorson, a freshman midfielder, led the CMU defense to a pair of home wins last weekend, 19-5 over Delaware State and 6-5 over VCU.
Halvorson helped limit Delaware State to just one first-half goal, as CMU jumped out to a 9-1 lead at the break.
For the game, Halvorson had three ground balls and one draw control in addition to four points on three goals and one assist.
Against VCU on Sunday, Halvorson was CMU's overall defensive leader, taking multiple charges en route to causing four turnovers. She also collected four ground balls.
Halvorson was the centerpiece of a defensive effort that limited VCU to a season-low seven shots on goal and forced the Rams into a season-high 27 turnovers.
She was also key in the transition game, as CMU finished 19-for-19 on clear attempts.
It marks the second time this season that a Chippewa has earned league player of the week honors. Mid Jocelyn Lemay received the award on Feb. 23.
The Chippewas, in their first year as a varsity program, are 3-2. They play at Marquette in a non-conference game on Saturday.
