
Chippewa Women Capture 2 Firsts At Big Blue Classic

CHARLESTON, Ill. - The Central Michigan men won three events Saturday to finish tied for second in the Big Blue Classic at Eastern Illinois.
The Chippewas and Illinois State both finished with 114 points, 10 behind the host Panthers.
The CMU women finished sixth with 55 ½ points. Eastern Illinois was first with 153 ½.
Nine teams comprised the men's meet, 10 teams comprised the women's meet.
For the CMU men, Sam Wagner won the pole vault, Jake Peister was first in the triple jump, and Cole Walderzak won the discus.
For the Chippewa women, Kyleigh Young won the javelin and Kylie Dobbelaere was first in the hammer throw.
Wagner won the pole vault at 16 feet, 1¼ inches; Peister finished at 47-1½ in the triple jump; and Walderzak, who won the hammer throw on Friday, won the discus at 193-7.
Also for the CMU men, Scott Cousino was third in the 800-meter run (1:58.71), Shane Moffo was third in the 110 hurdles (14.58), the 4x100 relay team placed third (42.56); Tony Armstrong was third in the pole vault (15-5 ½); Avery Joseph was third in the javelin, 174-8; Melvin Harris was fourth in the high jump (6-4 ¾); Dylan Banagis was fifth in the discus (170-8); and Lorenzo Wells was seventh in the 200-meter dash (21.93) and Malik Vasquez was seventh in the 400 (50.98).
Malik Peacock, Lorenzo Wells, Jamar Hardy and Ali Taha comprised the 4x100 relay.
Young's winning toss in the women's javelin was 146-7, while Dobbelaere's winning throw in the hammer throw was 183-9.
The Chippewas got fourth-place finishes from Samantha Cuneo in the 400 (58.88), and from April Micheaux in the javelin (117-4).
CMU's Rebekah Petty and Tina Davis placed sixth in the pole vault and 100, respectively. Davis finished in 11.89 seconds, while Petty cleared 11-11 ¼. The Chippewas' Gabriella Beauvais was seventh in the 200 (25.16).
The Chippewas got eighth-place finishes from Cuneo (200, 25.29), Simonae Dismuke (400, 59.59), Emily Helfrich (high jump, 5-1) and Shaya Wilkerson (triple jump, 37-1). Tina Davis placed ninth in the 200 (25.44).
