MUNCIE, Ind. -- CarolAnn Sexauer singled, doubled, tripled and drove in three runs Saturday in leading the Central Michigan softball team to a 9-2 victory over Ball State in the second game of a Mid-American Conference doubleheader at the BSU Softball Complex.
Ball State won the opener, 2-1. The game-two in gave the Chippewas, who won Friday's opener, 1-0, their second straight MAC series win. CMU, which has won four of its last five games, is 20-22-1 overall, 7-9-1 MAC. Ball State is 19-29, 5-13.
Allison Curtis and Katelyn Rentschler each drove in two runs for CMU in the nightcap. The Chippewas used a four-run second inning to seize a 5-1 lead and never trailed after that.
CMU scored all four of its second-inning runs after two were out. Curtis smacked a two-run single and Sexauer added a two-run double. The Chippewas collected 10 hits.
Rachael Knapp (11-11) went the distance in the circle for the win in the nightcap. She allowed one earned run on four hits. She struck out three and walked one. Her strong performance came one day after she blanked the Cardinals in Friday's series opener.
In Saturday's opener, Ball State scored both of its runs in the second inning on an error and a Madison Lee RBI double.
Chelsea DeLamielleure homered for the Chippewas in the fifth. It was her sixth of the season. Sexauer finished with two hits.
Sophomore Hanna Warren (7-8) went the distance in the circle for the Chippewas. She allowed three hits, struck out four and walked one. Both Ball State runs were unearned.
Carolyn Wilmes earned the win in the opener, and Nicole Steinbach suffered the loss in game two.
The Chippewas go to third-ranked Michigan (36-4) for a non-league game on Wednesday, then return to MAC competition with a three-game home series beginning on Friday with Eastern Michigan (18-26, 8-9).
