MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Maggie Baumert has joined the Central Michigan volleyball program as a volunteer assistant coach.
Baumert, a native of Elkhorn, Neb., was a standout setter at Creighton, where she helped lead the Bluejays to BIG EAST regular-season and tournament championships in 2014 and 2015, and to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament last season.
"We're extremely excited to welcome Maggie Baumert to our volleyball family," first-year CMU coach Mike Gawlik said. "She has proven herself as a competitor as an elite setter for Creighton and will be able to work with our setters and offensive systems.
"Although new to the coaching ranks, we know Maggie will be a tremendous fit with our staff and program."
Baumert, who played at Georgia for two years before transferring to Creighton, was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team and the league all-tournament squad last season. She ranked second in the conference with 10.96 assists per set.
Baumert cut her teeth in the coaching business working camps while at Creighton and with VC Nebraska. She earned a bachelor of science degree with a major in psychology from Creighton in May, 2016.
The Chippewas' annual Maroon & Gold Scrimmage is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20. They open the season on Aug. 26 at the IUPUI Hampton Inn Invitational.
