TOLEDO, Ohio. — Unforced errors proved costly for the Central Michigan volleyball team Saturday, as the Chippewas dropped a three-setter to Toledo in a Mid-American Conference match at the Rockets' Savage Arena.
The Chippewas fell 25-19, 25-21, 25-11 in their sixth straight-sets loss of the season.
CMU slips to 6-8 overall and 0-2 to open league play after dropping a five-set match at Ball state on Friday. Toledo is 8-6, 1-1.
"I just don't think we played particularly well today," CMU coach Mike Gawlik said. "We didn't do well with the quick turnaround from (Friday) night's match and Toledo just outplayed us."
Central Michigan committed a season-high 19 attack errors in the loss in addition to five service errors, and four blocking errors.
"We were just a step behind them the whole match," Gawlik said. "We played very rushed and frantic which forced a lot of mistakes and we were reacting to them instead of us being the aggressor."
The Chippewas finished the match hitting at just a .125 clip. The Rockets finished at .372.
Sophomore outside hitter Laura Wilson led CMU with 10 kills and a .348 hitting percentage. Jordan Bueter added seven kills.
Setters Kathia Sanchez and Marissa Grant each finished with 13 assists. Freshman Libero Megan Kern had 11 digs to lead CMU defensively.
Saige Thomas recorded 17 kills to lead Toledo.
The Chippewas will play host to Northern Illinois (9-4, 1-0) in their home opener on Friday, Sept. 30. They entertain Western Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 2.
"I know this team is real excited to get home and play in front of our fans after being on the road for so long," Gawlik said. "We have a real busy week of getting better before we focus too much on who we are playing."
