MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan women's basketball team took its first Mid-American Conference loss of the season on Saturday when it fell at Buffalo, 67-56.
The Chippewas are 14-5, 6-1 MAC. Buffalo is 14-4, 4-3.
JoAnna Smith scored 29 points for Buffalo, and Summer Hemphill led the Bulls with nine rebounds.
Tinara Moore scored 21 points to lead CMU, while Jewel Cotton added 11 and Reyna Frost grabbed 10 rebounds. Moore and Cotton each had seven rebounds.
Buffalo limited CMU's leading scorer, Presley Hudson, to eight points on a 2-for-12 shooting effort. It was the first time the sophomore guard has failed to score in double digits since the third game of the season.
The Chippewas made just one of their 15 3-point attempts in the game and were 19-for-59 from the floor for 32.2 percent, their lowest in a MAC game this season.
The Bulls seized the lead late in the first half and slowly pulled away in the second. Bufflo finished with 24 points off turnovers to the Chippewas' 10.
It was the second meeting of the season between two teams expected to finish near or at the top of the MAC standings. The Chippewas won the first, 88-71, at McGuirk Arena two weeks ago. CMU and Buffalo met in the MAC Tournament championship game last March with Buffalo pulling out a two-point overtime victory.
The Chippewas play at a league game at Toledo (12-5, 3-3) on Saturday, Jan. 28 (4:30 p.m.).
