TOLEDO, Ohio - Despite Tinara Moore's season-high 33 points, Central Michigan fell to Toledo, 74-72, in a Mid-American Conference women's basketball game on Saturday at the Rockets' Savage Arena.
It was CMU's second-straight loss as it slipped to 14-6, 6-2 MAC. The Chippewas are third in the West behind first-place Northern Illinois, which broke a tie atop the division with a 101-96 win over second-place Ball State on Saturday.
Toledo snaped a three-game losing streak in improving to 13-6, 4-4.
The Chippewas, who dropped their first MAC game of the season a week ago, led by five points to open the fourth quarter and were in front, 70-68, with under a minute to play.
Jay Bravo-Harriott hit a 3-pointer with 54 seconds left to put the Rockets up, 71-70. The Chippewas never tied the game or regained the lead.
With Toledo leading, 74-72, CMU guard Presley Hudson was called for an offensive foul on a drive to the basket, ending the Chippewas' last good chance to tie the game or go ahead. Jewel Cotton's desperation shot at the buzzer missed.
Moore, a 6-foot-3 junior, made 10 of her 18 field goal attempts and finished 11-for-13 from the free throw line. The 33 points was two shy of her career high.
Aleah Swary added 11 points and Hudson and Reyna Frost had nine each for CMU, which finished 21-for-53 (39.6 percent) from the floor including 6-of-20 (30 percent) from 3-point range.
Central Michigan made 24 of its 29 free throw attempts (82.9 percent), but were outscored, 38-20, in the paint.
Janice Monakana scored 18 points to lead five Rockets in double figures.
Central Michigan will look to bounce back when they return to McGuirk Arena on Wednesday (6 p.m.) to play Ohio. The Bobcats are 17-4 overall and lead the MAC East at 7-2.
