14 CMU Runners Earn Academic Honors

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- For the second time in as many years, 14 Central Michigan student-athletes were named to the 2017 Academic All-Mid-American Conference cross country team.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-MAC, a runner must maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and participate in 50 percent of the races on his or her team's schedule.
The student-athletes from the CMU men's team who qualified for this year's recognition were (including year, grade point average and major): Luke Anderson, junior, 3.60, economics; Mark Beckmann, junior, 3.36, physical education; Alec Esparza, junior, 3.74, biochemistry; Kenny Goolsby, sophomore, 3.70, finance; Conor Naughton, sophomore, 3.62, sport management; Alec Omell, senior, 3.29, electrical engineering; Bransen Stimpfel, sophomore, 3.70, biology; Ben Yagiela, junior, 3.55, exercise science.
The qualifiers from the CMU women's team: Taylor Aguillon, senior, 3.54, community health education; Samantha Allmacher, junior, 3.97, biology; Natalie Beaulieu, sophomore, 3.92, undecided; Carissa Gobbi, sophomore, 3.94, biochemistry, Megan O'Neil, junior, 3.73, neuroscience; and Erin Zdrojewski, junior, 3.74, undecided.
Esparza, Omell, Allmacher and O'Neil are repeat honorees.
The eight CMU men named to the Academic All-MAC team tied Bowling Green for the most from any school in the league.
