MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan tight end Tyler Conklin has accepted an invitation to play in the Reese's Senior Bowl, which is scheduled for Jan. 27 in Mobile, Ala.
The game, which is considered among the most prestigious of the college all-star games, annually attracts some of the nation's best graduating seniors going head to head in a showcase played out before fans and NFL scouts at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
Conklin is the eighth player in CMU history and the first Chippewa since Eric Fisher in 2013 to accept an invitation to play in the game. Fisher went on to be taken with the first overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
Conklin, a 6-foot-4, 240-pound senior, missed the Chippewas' first five games of the season with an injury. Since his return on Oct. 7 against Ohio, Conklin has recorded 28 catches for 406 yards and five touchdowns. He made 10 catches for 136 yards - both career highs -- and two TDs against the Bobcats.
With Conklin in the lineup, the Chippewas are 6-1.
Conklin, who hails from Chesterfield Township, transferred to CMU from Division II Northwood where he played basketball for one season.
In his three seasons at CMU, Conklin has made 76 catches for 1,061 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was named to the John Mackey Award Watch List prior to the 2017 season. The award goes to the top tight end in college football.
