MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Bahamas is out. But there are plenty of other possibilities as Central Michigan football fans speculate on the Chippewas’ bowl destination.
The Mid-American Conference has primary tie-ins with four bowl games, and is a secondary participant in three others. The Chippewas, who finished the regular season 8-4, will learn their destination and their opponent on Sunday, Dec. 3.
Once the Chippewas' bowl destination is confirmed, fans can call 989-774-1921 to order tickets. The line will be staff from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The MAC tie-ins are with the Dollar General Bowl, the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl, the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl and the Bahamas Bowl. The Bahamas Bowl has already filled its dance card with Ohio and Alabama-Birmingham.
The MAC secondary bowl tie-ins are with the Quick Lane Bowl, the Boca Raton Bowl and the Frisco Bowl. In the case of those three bowl games, a MAC team that has the requisite six victories may be asked to fill a spot if conferences that have priority cannot.
There are a record-tying seven bowl-eligible MAC teams (CMU, Toledo, Akron, Western Michigan, Northern Illinois, Buffalo and Ohio). The league also had seven bowl-eligible teams in 2012 and in 2015.
Jerry Palm of CBSSports.com predicts that the Chippewas are headed to the Camelia Bowl to play Georgia State, while Sports Illustrated has CMU staying closer to home and playing Virginia in the Quick Lane Bowl at Ford Field in Detroit.
