The San Jose State football team is coming to Kelly/Shorts Stadium in 2020 as part of a two-game agreement.
The 2020 game, finalized last week, will be the third time Central Michigan has faced the Spartans. The Chippewas won at San Jose State, 34-32, on Nov. 24, 1979, to finish a 10-0-1 season. They lost to San Jose State, 48-24, on Dec. 8, 1990 in the California Raisin Bowl.
San Jose State, a member of the Mountain West Conference, will play host to the Chippewas on Aug. 30, 2025.
"San Jose State is part of an outstanding non-conference schedule for us in 2020," CMU Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Michael Alford said. "We have two Big Ten opponents with Northwestern and Nebraska and now a Mountain West team. "The second game with San Jose State will give our student-athletes a chance to play in the heart of Silicon Valley and see a historical campus in downtown San Jose."
CMU finished the regular season 8-4 overall, 6-2 in the Mid-American Conference and will learn its bowl destination on Sunday.
Once the bowl game is announced, CMU fans can ensure they will sit among Chippewa fans by purchasing bowl tickets by calling 989-774-1921 or ordering online at cmuchippewas.com.
"Strong non-conference opponents like San Jose State challenge us and make us better entering MAC play," CMU coach John Bonamego said. "We also know our fans enjoy seeing Mountain West teams come into Kelly/Shorts."
