
Chippewas Drop A Pair At Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Central Michigan dropped two games at the Texas A&M Aggie Classic on Saturday, falling to Lamar, 7-3, and to the host Aggies, 8-5.
The Chippewas will play their final game of the weekend on Sunday (10 a.m.) against Ohio State. CMU will be looking to make up for their loss on Friday against the Buckeyes 10-0.
Sydney Heath led off the second inning with a double to left field and scored on an Erika Underwood double to put CMU on the board against Lamar on Saturday. Morgan Gardner double to right-center field to score Underwood and give the Chippewas a 2-0 lead.
Gardner's two-out double drove in Allison Curtis in the fourth, putting CMU up 3-1.
Lamar (2-1) scored six runs in the fifth, chasing CMU starter Laura Vaccaro. Hanna Warren and Rachael Knapp worked in relief of Vaccaro.
Vaccaro allowed three runs on three hits over 4 1/3 innings. She struck out two and walked four. Warren surrendered four runs on five hits on one-third of an inning in taking the loss. Knapp surrendered one hit hits and walk one in 1 1/3 innings.
Both Gardner and Underwood doubled twice to lead CMU's eight-hit attack.
Knapp went the distance in taking the loss against Texas A&M, which is ranked 19th. She allowed eight runs on 10 hits, walked four and struck out two.
The Aggies broke a 5-5 tie on Ashley Walters' three-run double to left-center in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Gardner, a freshman, hit her first career home run, a three-run shot in the second inning, to lead CMU at the plate.
The Chippewas collected nine hits, two by Rachel Vieira.
Samantha Show struck out five in notching the win.
