MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan lacrosse player Shannon Doyle was named the Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Week.
Doyle, a freshman midfielder from Mars, Pa., headlined a solid defensive effort in the Chippewas' narrow 12-9 home loss to Marquette, which entered the game with three close losses, two of which came to nationally ranked teams.
Doyle helped hold the Golden Eagles' leading scorer to zero run-of-play goals and limit Marquette to just three first-half scores. She was key to CMU's transition defense, totaling a team-high five caused turnovers.
Doyle got it done on both ends, as she tallied one goal and one assist in addition to controlling two draws. Three games into her first collegiate season, Doyle leads Central Michigan in goals (8), caused turnovers (7) and ground balls (14), and is tied for first in points (9) and ranks second in draw controls (5).
The Chippewas (1-2) play at Virginia Commonwealth on Sunday, March 5.
