• For the third and final time this outdoor season, Chippewa track & field will split into two groups. Thirty-five CMU athletes will participate on various days of the Gina Relays, while a group of 22 will head to Philadelphia for the prestigious Penn Relays.
• The Penn Relays might feature the highest level of competition the Chippewas will see all season. Ten teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference, six from the Big Ten, and seven teams combined from the Big XII, the Pac-12 and the Southeastern conferences are scheduled to attend.
• Among those scheduled to participate is Oregon, of the Pac-12, which boasts the No. 2-ranked women's team in the country according to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
• Emily Helfrich, April Micheaux and Calli Stemple will be the first Chippewas in action at the Penn Relays when the women's high jump kicks it off at 10 a.m. Thursday. Jamie Madrigal and Katie Weiler will do the same at the Gina Relays with the women's 5,000-meter run at 6:45 p.m. Thursday.
• Kylee Dobbelaere will also compete in the Penn Relays on Thursday with the women's hammer throw slated for 2:30 p.m. Dobbelaere is fresh off her program-record-setting performance last week at the Jesse Owens Classic at Ohio State.
• Dobbelaere, a senior from Marlette, broke her own school record with a 194-foot, 2-inch toss.
• CMU's Megan O'Neil will be back on the track on Friday in Hillsdale as she competes in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase. O'Neil holds the eighth-fastest time in the event in the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region. She is also coming off an impressive performance at the Jesse Owens where she won the 5,000-meter run, slicing more than 20 seconds off her previous best time.
• The Chippewas' Logan Targgart, ranked No. 4 in the Great Lakes Region after last week's 213-9 hammer throw, will join Dylan Banagis in the men's hammer throw championship flight at the Penn Relays on Saturday. Banagis will also compete in the men's discus championship, which will be held just before the hammer throw.
