The Central Michigan football team will head to Florida in 2019 to take on five-time national champion Miami.
The game, finalized earlier this week, will mark the first time the Chippewas have faced the Miami Hurricanes.
"A game against Miami – a university with a history of being a national title contender – fulfills a promise we make to our student-athletes that we will compete against the best," CMU Director of Athletics Michael Alford said. "It also puts us in a state with a large contingent of CMU alumni, giving them a convenient opportunity to take in a Chippewa football game."
The 2019 nonconference schedule includes a home game against Albany (Aug. 29), a game at Big Ten member Wisconsin (Sept. 7), a home game against South Florida (Sept. 14) and the game at Miami (Sept. 21).
"We're on the road this season to play three tough games – Kansas, Syracuse and Boston College," CMU football coach John Bonamego said. "Our players get fired up to compete on the bigger stages, and there is no bigger stage than playing the Hurricanes in Miami.
"Florida also is an important state for recruiting, so it's good to put CMU in front those students."
Miami won its last national title in 2001, when it went 13-0. Last year, the Hurricanes won their last five games to go 9-4, finish second in the Atlantic Coast Conference Coastal. They beat West Virginia, 31-14, in the Russell Athletic Bowl and finished year ranked No. 23.
CMU opens practice for the 2017 next week and opens the season Aug. 31 at home against Rhode Island. Single-game game tickets purchased in advance cost $22 for adults, $15 for youths/seniors. General admission seating is $12. Group pricing – for a purchase of 10 or more tickets – is $10 per ticket. On game day, the pricing is $25 for adults, $18 for youths/seniors, $15 for general admission and $12 for group pricing.
The CMU Family Pack is back, and for $65 fans receive four reserved tickets to any of the five home games. Family Packs are only available on the day of the game.
As always, fans are encouraged to purchase parking in advance to ensure a spot. Advance purchase parking is $10. Game-day parking passes are $15.
Tickets and parking permits can be purchased online at cmuchippews.com, in person at Ticket Central in the John G. Kulhavi Events Center or by calling 989-774-3045.
