NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Jordan Bueter posted 10 kills to lead the Central Michigan volleyball team in their 3-0 win against Southern Illinois in their opener of the Notre Dame Shamrock Invitational on Friday.
The Chippewas (8-2) are scheduled to finish the tournament on Saturday against No. 23 Michigan State (10 a.m.) and Notre Dame (7 p.m.).
CMU topped Southern Illinois 25-19, 25-19, 25-22.
"I thought we came out and really executed our game plan," CMU coach Mike Gawlik said. "We had a lot of people contribute. We know we have a tough day tomorrow so it's nice to get a win here in the first game."
Paige Carey tallied seven kills on a .455 attack percentage for Central Michigan. Taylor Robertson added eight kills and 12 digs, Bueter added seven digs, and setter Grace Butler finished with 31 assists.
"Taylor is always a big threat on the right side to balance out the court," said Gawlik. "She's a good balance to Bueter on the other side. Her abilities are part of what makes it hard to defend us."
Andrea Estrada had Southern Illinois with seven kills.
Central Michigan finished with a .187 attack percentage to Southern Illinois' .154.
"Tomorrow will be a good measuring stick for how far we've come this season," said Gawlik. "We're going to focus on the people on the court, not the name or ranking. We'll find success in little bunches. You can't beat good teams if you don't play them."
